San Francisco's 3-cart program is designed to make recycling easier for customers, preserve resources, and help the city reduce its carbon footprint. In San Francisco, we collect all recycling in the blue cart and all compost in the green cart. The program is central to City of San Francisco's effort to divert 75 percent of waste generated in the city away from landfill disposal by 2010 and to achieve zero waste by 2020.
